Cold Calling – Nothing More Than Unfocused Marketing

There are plenty of ways that companies and services have attempted to ensure that the voice of their product is heard. Not just heard but, should be heard by a lot of people. Different methods have been implemented so far, but sadly most of them do not generate instant sales. Cold calling is one example of this.

Though most of us are aware of what exactly cold calling is (because of being regular victims of this gimmick) but for those who are still safe, cold calling over the phone is when you phone someone (repeatedly) without their prior permission. The term cold is used here because the customers haven’t requested your call and aren’t expecting it either.
Let’s have a look why cold emailing or emailing is nothing more than a gimmick:

It’s an outdated stuff
Cold calling is not as effective as it used to be in the past. Plenty of new technologies are available and it is so easy with them to call and irritate customers. But now people don’t like to be interrupted for a long while and as a result they filter such calls, leading to a big failure of this marketing trick.

It makes you lose all your respect
Cold calling is often mistakenly believed as telemarketing and both of them are lumped together in the same category in consumer minds. But whatever the case may be they are interpreted as unscrupulous B2B marketing strategies which pose negative effect on your business. A negative image means a great loss of respect and trust in the entire marketing industry.

Doesn’t provide qualified marketing leads
Cold calling is not needed by any of us because it never provides us with valuable details about anything. It always like they say what they are programmed to say and not what we would want to listen. People can always Google all the valuable information that is actually needed, so it’s irritating to get interrupted for no use.

It’s unfocused and restricted, plus a waste of time
In this super fast age of social networking, cold calling is simply a failure. This is an old process that targets one person at a time thus wasting valuable time. On the other hand social media networking allows you to be at many places at a time. A good B2B marketer always knows that this business builds over time where time wastage is money wastage. You need focus b2b email marketing strategies in the right direction

It poses negative effect on your business
Calling someone all the time reflects that you have a lot of time to waste and irritate a busy, successful person. This way you can’t portray your business as very successful and busy. This negative image can easily place you on the left side of success numbers.

Sales people hate it (big time)
Though calling is a fact of life for sales people, most of them hate it. Some of them don’t like rejection; some don’t want to come across as a desperate marketer while some don’t want to sound like a telemarketer. But whatever the case may be, if you’ll do what you hate failure is inevitable.

I have to agree, in the 1980′s cold calling was a very effective tool to get to the right people with a pitch. I used it extensively to great success. However with the advent of the internet and advancment in communication through mediums such as email, cold calling has become irrelevant.
